60% of the failures in root canal treatments are caused by prosthetic restorations*. These failures are often caused by the currently used post systems:

	Metal posts are stiff, tend to corrode and may result in root fracture. Decementation and/or dislocation of the post, root perforation during canal pre-shaping, reinfection of the canal etc. are other causes for possible failure.

	Glass fiber posts often do not resist appropriately to material fatigue, most of them are too elastic and could break under high stress.

According to literature**, quartz fiber technology combined with a double taper design is most likely the ultimate solution for post systems.
