ANSWERS

  1. Why can't I screw the tip on to the handpiece?
Possible reason is damaged threads on the tip or the handpiece. If the tip threads are damaged try to clean the handpiece threads with compressed air and try with a new unused tip. If the problem still remains, contact your dealer for service instructions, because the handpiece threads might be damaged. Check all tips and handpieces at the clinic for damaged thread. Replace all tips and handpieces with damaged thread, otherwise the problem might come back.

  2. Can I reshape/modify the shape of the tip?
No, warranty is void if the tip is reshaped or modified. The risk for tip fracture will also increase.

  3. Why did my tip fracture?
When the tip is worn down about 2 mm the risk for tip fracture increases and the tip should therefore be replaced with a new tip. For thinner tips too high power setting might cause a tip fracture.

  4. Why is it difficult to remove the tip/Quick-a-Tip?
If the tip/Quick-a-Tip not is removed between each treatment it might get stuck on the handpiece.

  5. When is a tip worn out?
The tip is worn out and should be replaced when it is worn by approx. 2mm.

Note! The efficiency decreases when the tip is worn out, therefore it is important to replace a worn out tip to achieve maximum efficiency. Check the length regularly against a tip template in the user’s manual. When using Quick-a-Tip it is important to always change the whole Quick-a-Tip including the plastic sleeve and blue silicone ring, this because also the sleeve wear. See also question 4.

  6. Are new tips sterile upon delivery?
    No, sterilize before use.

  7. Why does the tip feel warm?
Probably because of friction heat. Use higher water flow, at least 20 ml/min, and keep patient's lips, cheeks and tongue out of the way of the activated tip.

  8. Can I sterilize my tips and sleeves in dry heat or chemical autoclave?
No, this may damage the material. Use a steam autoclave and autoclave at a maximum temperature of 135ºC (275ºF) for a maximum time of 10 minutes or at 121ºC (248ºF) for maximum 20 minutes.

  9. Where can I find power recommendations for different tips?
You can find these recommendations on our information sheets "How to use your Amdent". The power recommendations are also delivered together with the scaler.

  10. Why should I use Quick-a-Tip?
It only takes a couple of seconds to fasten Quick-a-Tip to the handpiece. This makes it the perfect solution when you want to change tips several times during treatment.

  11. Can I use Quick-a-Tip together with my old scaler?
If the scaler was purchased before the Quick-a-Tip was introduced in year 2000 we can not guarantee that it will work but with most of the old scalers it will work fine. If you test with a Quick-a-Tip and your scaler does not work properly you can always use just the tip together with a Power-Line or Softgrip sleeve.

  12. Why isn’t there any spray?
At lower power settings and with some tips there will be no spray. Note that the spray is not necessary for the treatment.

  13. The tip does not vibrate at all or do not have enough power?
Check that the power cord is connected properly (US30).
Check that the on/off switch is in ON position and green lamp illuminated (US30).
Check the fuses and replace if necessary (US30).
Check that the tip is firmly tightened.
Check that the tip is not worn out. Try with a new tip.
Check that the power is adjusted to appropriate level.
Check that endo switch is in scaling mode position if applicable.
Use Amdents power line system instead of Quick-a-Tip. Read the information sheets "How to use your Amdent…"

  14. Why do my sleeves get discoloured?
The main reason for discoloured sleeves is contaminated steam. If the Quick-a-Tip is autoclaved together with heavily lubricated handpieces, oil from the handpiece (especially in the vacuum autoclaves) evaporates and deposit on the Q-a-T causing discolouring. However the discolouring is just a cosmetic problem and does not affect function and mechanical properties.

  15. Why is it difficult to mount or remove the Power-Line sleeve?
-O-rings on handpiece needs lubrication. Lubricate the o-rings regularly with KY-jelly or other glycerine based, water soluble lubricant. Vaseline may also be used but it may shorten the durability time of the o-rings. Replace o-rings if necessary.

-The Power-Line sleeve has shrunk. After several autoclave cycles the sleeve might shrink. Replace the sleeve.

-If the sleeve not is removed between each treatment it might get stuck on the handpiece.

  16. Why do the handpiece get over heated?
Probably because of too little cooling water. Check that the water flow is sufficient. Recommended minimum flow: 20 ml/min.

  17. Can the scaler be used on pacemaker patients?
No, we don’t recommend using the scaler on patients with cardiac pacemakers. The scaler may disturb the function of the pacemaker.

  18. How do I clean the handpiece?
Wipe of the handpiece and the hose with a soft cloth, use 45% isopropanol and detergent solution. Also wipe of the forward metal part of the handpiece. Do not immerse the handpiece in any fluid and do not spray any fluid directly on the handpiece. Moisture may permeate into it and damage the ultrasonic generator.

  19. Can I use nickel-titanium files in an endodontic treatment with my Amdent scaler?
No, do not use nickel-titanium files, since they easily break at high frequencies.

  20. Why do I sometimes hear a squeaking sound during the treatment?
It's because the tip isn't kept parallel to the surface or if the pressure against the tip is too low.

  21. Are the bottles for the medicament dispenser autoclave able?
Yes, both bottles and bottle connectors can be autoclaved (steam) at a maximum temperature of 121º (248ºF) for 20 minutes.

  22. What should I do if I have insufficient fluid flow in US30?
Open the water adjustment knob as much as possible. If the fluid flow is still insufficient, remove the tip and check if fluid comes out of the handpiece. If, yes replace the tip.

  23. What type of fluids can be used in US30?
    Water
    Sterile water
    Cetylpyridinium Chloride
    Chlorhexidine
    Essential Oils
    Hydrogen Peroxide, 3% USP
    Povidine Iodine, 10% solution
